First of all, it might seem like a big deal to admit that there’s a problem – and it is. Problem gambling can destroy lives. But people admit they have a problem every day, and nobody thinks any less of them. In fact, it’s a sign of greater strength to admit there’s a problem, and even greater again to seek out help.
Below is a list of organisations who deal with people who have gambling problems every day. They’re the best people to contact first.
Support Organisations
Gambling therapy
Gambling Therapy offer online support to anyone addicted to gambling and those who show problematic gambling behaviour. They offer a global service and support is available in multiple languages, so if English isn't your first language this group will be very helpful. The Gambling Therapy app is free to download on iOS and Android devices.
GamCare
GamCare operates a national telephone and online helplines for anyone affected by a gambling problem and provides both face to face and online counselling.
Gamblers Anonymous
Gamblers Anonymous is a support group for people who wish to do something about their gambling problem and help others do the same through attending meetings.
Dunlewey Addiction Services
Dunlewey provides counselling, mentoring, education and support to individuals directly or indirectly affected by gambling problem.
Samaritans
Samaritans is a unique charity dedicated to reducing feelings of isolation and disconnection that can lead to suicide.
They are available 24/7, before, during and after a crisis.
Whether it’s an ‘are you ok?’ at just the right moment, or the midnight support of a trained volunteer; – they’re available.
Blocking Gambling Sites
If you feel like the best course of action is to remove the ability to access all gambling websites, then Gamban is an independent organization who make an app that blocks access to all sites and apps, across your phone, tablet and computer.
Debt and Financial Advice
Often, gambling can lead to problems with unpaid loans or credit card debt, which can mean there’s an urge to gamble to fund these. Do not do this.
Instead, there are organisations that can help with making a plan to addressing your debt. It’s never as bad as you think it is, so these organisations really can help.

My Money steps was developed by Debtline, it offers free personised solutions to help you deal with your debts and get you back in control of your finances.
Money Advice Service
The Money Advice Service helps people manage their money. They do this directly through their free and impartial advice service. They also work in partnership with other organisations to help people make the most of their money. They are an independent service, set up by government.
MABS
MABS is a free, independent, non-judgmental and confidential service for people who are in debt or at risk of getting into debt. MABS will work with you to determine the type of support you need, including assessing whether it is necessary to meet with a Money Adviser.
