Self Exclusion

What is Self-Exclusion?

Should you need to take a break from gambling, we provide a self-exclusion facility which allows you to prevent yourself from accessing your Betfair account. Self-exclusion means that your account will remain closed for a minimum period of 6 months, and will not be reactivated under any circumstances during the exclusion period (unlike a standard account closure request).

It is also possible to a set self-exclusion on Betfair by individual product type (e.g. poker). This might be practical when you may be having difficulty controlling your betting on one or more product types, but are comfortable in managing other types of gambling.

Although the minimum period of time that self-exclusion can be set is six months, there is no maximum period of time and self-exclusion can be permanent.

If you have unmatched Exchange bets these will be cancelled and the funds returned to your account balance. Any (part) matched bets will stand. Please contact Customer Services to arrange for these funds to be returned to you.

What Next?

We recommend that you seek additional support and advice from a recognised problem gambling support agency during the self-exclusion period.

Most gambling / gaming operators offer self-exclusion and if you have accounts with other operators, you should request self-exclusion with each operator where you hold an account.

You should also consider installing software that blocks access to internet gambling websites, for further information please click here.

We also strongly recommend that you “unlike” and / or “un-follow” yourself from any Facebook, Twitter or other social media accounts that are linked to Betfair or other gambling operators.

Our self-exclusion facility now covers both Paddy Power and Betfair brands. From 30/12/2016, if you self-exclude from one brand, we will endeavour to prevent you accessing your account within your selected self-exclusion timeframe across both brands. If you have had an account closed on either brand and it may contain a balance, please conact the relevant Customer Service team.

Please be aware that if you apply any player protection tool to your Betfair account it will not automatically apply to your Paddy Power account.  If you wish to set a player protection tool you can do so via your Paddy Power account online or alternatively, their Customer Services can set this for you.

How do I set a Self-Exclusion?

A self-exclusion can either be set from the ‘Player Protection’ section of ‘My Account’, or can by our Customer Service Team upon request.

What happens after my Self-Exclusion period ends?

Please be aware that after the minimum 6 month exclusion period has passed, your account will not be automatically reopened.

If you would like us to consider reactivating your account you’ll need to contact our Customer Service Team by either phone or Live Chat. Should it be possible for your account to be reactivated, you will be unable to access your account straight away. There is a time-out period of 24 hours for UK customers, or 7 days for any non-UK customer, enforced on the account. After this period passes, full access to your account will be re-enabled.

If you change your mind about re-opening your account during this period please let us know.

There are different requirements for customers resident in Australia – please click here.
